Susan Pagella is an independent therapist with psychotherapy
practices in Central London and near Lymington, Hampshire. She
has experience in working with a wide range of issues and has special interests
around trauma, particularly relating to the legacy of political aggression /
genocide.
Additionally, Susan currently has a role within Education as
Refugee Adviser, within Children’s Services and Learning, and manages a small
team of mediators.
Prior to training in counselling and psychotherapy, Susan has
lived and worked within education abroad, in W. Africa, N. Africa, the Middle
East, including Saudi Arabia- and the Far East and has been involved in the
field of therapy for a decade. Latterly, her work has included approximately
five years in the area of trauma, with patients affected by the Balkans war, and
also those from the Congo, Ethiopia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and Turkish Kurds.
She is experienced in working through an interpreter when necessary.
During 2005 Susan spent two weeks in Phuket, post Tsunami- in
a consultancy/support role with the Phuket Childline ‘Saidek Caravan’ project,
supporting and training teams of young people and accompanying them to outlying
schools affected by the Tsunami, plus, carrying out an audit of trauma regarding
the residual affects re children and teaching staff at the target schools, which
formed part of her report.
In 2006, Susan read a short paper as participant in a
workshop: ‘Researching Migration and Mental Health’ Compas-University of Oxford
Centre for Population Studies, entitled ‘Women, Terror and Survival- in a
Patriarchal Society’ based on her experiences in working with issues relating to
the Balkans war attrocities
Following the award of M.A. in Education,( inc. CAES Couns in
Ed.) an H.E Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and an MSc ‘Psychotherapy and
Counselling As a Means to Health,’ Susan was awarded an M.A. ‘The Foundations of
Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy’, plus a Certificate ‘Understanding Trauma:
Principles and Practice’, both from the Tavistock Centre, London. She is
currently a member of the Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists-TSP (Affiliate
Adult Psychotherapist Division) plus MBACP & RSM (assoc. membership).She maintains links with the
Tavistock, attending relevant conferences; seminars etc.
